Canadian Immigration 2 Appreciation of Medical Education and Eligibility for Admission

Canadian Immigration 2 Appreciation of Medical Education and Eligibility for Admission

A few days ago a close relative of mine called me from Bangladesh. Said, 'Uncle, we've immigrated to Canada; I will leave as soon as I can. ' I congratulated him.

The girl then said that she wanted to come to Canada and be admitted to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program. It would be better if I was admitted to any university in Canada, what is the eligibility for admission- I talked to the girl for an hour about all this.

The girl has passed HSC in Bangladesh. Currently studying in the first year of a university. As soon as he came to Canada, he wanted to study medicine. When I explained to him that it is not possible to get admission in medicine in Canada without passing high school, he was quite surprised to hear that.

The thing is, after finishing high school in Bangladesh, which is known as high school in Canada, he has to get admission in bachelor degree program and get at least 90 credits. Achieving these 90 credits usually ends with a four-year undergraduate or bachelor's degree / program. Then you have to give medical college admission test or MCAT test. 'MCAT' is a computer based test that is given to those who want to study medicine in several countries of the world including USA and Canada.

In addition to the results of the undergraduate program and the results of the ‘MCAT’ exam, another issue is seen in determining the eligibility for admission to medical in Canada. That is, how much the candidate is involved in volunteer and research work. How qualified to be a physician in Canada as a human being is seriously considered.

Indirect indication or evidence of these qualities is found in how much time they have given, or have not given, to voluntary social work. Just by being immersed in studies, many can get very good results in exams if they want to, but that does not mean that he will be a doctor of reliable and sensitive human qualities. Extracurricular activities, or extracurricular work are therefore seen as an important factor in medical admissions in Canada.

A preliminary list of medical admissions is prepared from among the applicants considering the above issues. At this stage the candidates are given their in-person interview. The interview is also in a few steps.

In a nutshell, a candidate has to go through seven / eight different stations to complete the entire interview. One aspect of the candidate is observed at each station. Those who can successfully tackle this series of interviews receive the final nomination to study medicine in Canada. In short, this is the process of medical admission in Canada.

My relative seemed to sigh after hearing the whole story. Because, the process is really long and at the same time very competitive. No matter how good a candidate gets in a bachelor's degree, or a high score in 'emcat', there is no guarantee that he will be able to pass the interview successfully.

To avoid this problem, many people follow the principle of 'If you can't do it once, look at it a hundred times'. Because, there is no limit to how many times a student can try to get admission in medical. Many take advantage of this opportunity to enroll in a medical college to complete a master's degree in another subject, or sometimes even a PhD. As a result, although the normal age for admission to medical college is twenty-one or twenty-two years, the reality is that the average age of admission to medical college in many universities is twenty-five or twenty-four.

Again studying in medical college in Canada is extremely expensive for a non-immigrant or foreign national. It is not so expensive for Canadian PRs (Permanent Residents) or Citizens. Because, if a PR or a citizen wants, he can study with low interest loan from government or bank or both sources. So it is important to note that those who have other qualifications should not be constrained by financial reasons to study medicine in Canada.

The question is, how can a student from Bangladesh or outside Canada come directly to Canada to study medicine? This is what my close relatives wanted to know. As the Registered Immigration Consultant (RCIC) of Canada, I will end today's discussion with a logical answer to this question.

First, studying in such a program after entering Canada as an immigrant will save a lot of money, which is clearly described above. And, for those who do not have the opportunity to come to Canada as an immigrant in the beginning, they can try to enter Canada as an International Student.

However, as an international student, it is difficult to get directly into a Canadian medical program from abroad, so you can come to Canada first as a student by enrolling in another program in the medical field (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, etc.). If you get immigrant or PR status after finishing your studies, you can try to get admission in medical. In that case, you can enjoy all the benefits that Canadians deserve to continue their studies.

In Canada, there are countless examples of people who have studied nursing or pharmacy and then entered medicine. I know these things better than many others because one of my family is studying medicine in Canada. As far as I know, students who have studied nursing or pharmacy are also very successful in medicine.

I did not deliberately advise my relative to enroll in nursing. Because, he may be upset or think I am discouraging him from studying medicine. Whatever you may say, in the context of Bangladesh, studying in nursing is not yet considered equivalent to medical-engineering. It does not seem to be considered in the near future. That is not the case in Canada and the United States.
